The iPad has been embraced by business all over the world and across industries, and now it’s invading the airlines too. Today, two new services involving tablets, planes and even naughty videos were revealed: read on to find out how a stewardess could be handing you a tablet with your complimentary scotch.

Jetstar, the low fares Australian airline owned by, announced a new service on its flight today: iPad hire. Economy passengers flying for longer than two hours can hire out an iPad from $10AUD (£6.50), and watch movies and TV shows stored on the device, as well as read eBooks.

The inflight iPads are housed in a special case with a kickstand, and are connected to a extra battery. The case covers the USB connection to stop thieving passengers from copying content onto their laptop, while an RFID tag will trigger an alarm on exit. Jetstar plans to carry 3,000 iPads in all, and will roll them out across domestic and international flights.

Closer to home meanwhile, Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary revealed plans today to allow passengers to rent porn on their iPads or smartphones. The Ryanair app would allow customers (for a price) to play games, gamble or watch movies, including rude ones.

“I’m not talking about having it on screens on the back of seats for everyone to see. It would be on handheld devices…hotels around the world have it, so why wouldn’t we?” O’Leary said.

Why not indeed? The blue iPad service may be a year in the making according to The Sun, which should give you just enough time to get the exact type of obscure debit card Ryanair doubtless won’t charge you a surplus to use.
