The new Panasonic Lumix DMC-3D1 is being rightly lauded as a 3D pioneer. But while its ability to take snaps and shoot HD video in three dimensions is undoubtedly cool, the fact it has two lenses is being put to clever use in a very unique way: dual 2D shooting. Read on to see just what Panasonic has managed to cram into its new DMC-3D1.
Dual shooting mode on the Panasonic Lumix DMC-3D1 is truly impressive. Using the fact the snapper has two lenses in order to record 3D images, Panny has managed to create a function where you can shoot 2D video and take 2D stills at the same time, while focusing on different aspects of a scene.
That means you can focus on one person with a great still shot, while shooting video of the wider event. You can also take dual stills and dual video, as well as mixing and matching. You can even switch which lens is taking what shot using the on-board touchscreen.
The 3D skills are not too shabby either. The 4x optical zoom lenses combine to create either 1080p 3D video or fire off 8 megapixels snaps. Panasonic even claims the 3D1’s battery will last as long as a standard 2D shooter, although the proof will really come when we get to put it through its paces.
Along with the newly-minted Panasonic Lumix GX1, this is definitely one of 2011’s most exciting cameras. Let us know what you think of the 3D1 in the comments now.
