Sony Ericsson might be on its way out as a joint venture. But that doesn’t mean the Japanese-Swedish tie-up doesn’t have some smart new kit round the corner. In fact, if rumours are to be believed, it has a new Ice Cream Sandwich-packing blower in the works. Dubbed the Xperia Arc HD, it promises to be one hell of a smartphone.

Word is the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc HD will have an eyeball-stroking 720p HD screen, with the ability to record 1080p HD video, shooting stills at 8 megapixels. The latter is a must if it’s to compete with the iPhone 4S, HTC Sensation and Samsung Galaxy S2.

The source of the gossip is one of Europe’s main mobile seller’s, according to the chaps at GSM Arena. Sadly, the insider hasn’t been able to deliver any more details beyond the screen info and what version of Google’s OS it’ll be running.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc HD is most likely to land at Mobile World Congress next February. By then though, it could well just be the Sony Xperia Arc HD. Either way, it sounds like a total winner.

Just to point out the obvious, the current Xperia Arc S is already an iPhone4s killer.

I believe the Xperia duo / HD (whatever SE decides to call it) will debut in early 2012, have a 1280×720 screen, dual-core processor (clock speed unknown), ICS and also a micro SIM, which will probably be in all 2012 models. While that’s fairly certain; I’d personally guess it will have NFC support and hopefully a lot more RAM, which is the one downside of all the 2011 models.
