Apple’s 2011 line-up has largely been focused on slightly rejigging older products, the iPad 2 being the slimline exception. But now, if sources close to Apple’s supply chain are to be believed, 2012 will see Cupertino completely revamp almost its entire range, with a new-look iPad 3, redesigned iPhone and sleek new version of both the iMac and MacBook Air. Read on for all the details.
As ever, these supply line stories should be taken with a rather hefty dose of salt. But the word emerging from Taiwan is that Apple will have its final iPad 3 parts orders sorted by December, with the iMac, iPhone and MacBook Air also set for overhauls.
Although the insider says the iMac and iPhone upgrades won’t land until the second half of 2012, more firm details are thin on the ground. While a new-look iPhone and iPad are entirely expected, as is a slimline iMac, changes to the MacBook Air’s design seem unlikely, especially as it got a rather major makeover last year.
Tellingly, there’s no mention either of the MacBook Pro, the one Apple gadget that is highly likely to be changed wholesale in 2012. That said, it’s certainly exciting to think Apple’s got some major plans for next year.
