HP Windows 8 tablet confirmed

Gutted by HP’s decision to kill off its fledging TouchPad? Well, the PC giant’s new CEO has some good news. Meg Whitman has confirmed that the company will be making a Windows 8 tablet, while remaining coy about the future of the once-doomed webOS. Read on to see just what Whitman’s got planned.

HP’s new tablet strategy doesn’t come as a surprise after Whitman said HP would not be spinning off its PC business, as was the plan under her predecessor Leo Apotheker. While she did not say when the device would be made, hopefully HP will be delivering this new slate when Windows 8 officially launches in 2012.

What’s more Whitman didn’t say whether webOS was definitely being killed off, as had been assumed after the TouchPad was sold off at £89 a pop. She said plans would be revealed in the next couple of months. Hopefully we’ll be seeing more of the erstwhile Palm operating system. Lord knows if it had decent app support it could have been a contender.
