nokia-maps-1

We knew Nokia Maps for Windows Phone was on the way, but we weren’t expecting such an extensive leak complete with screenshots so soon. But here we have it: Nokia Maps for Windows Phone.

A keen eyed forum member at XDA spotted a dummy placeholder on the Windows Phone Marketplace for the app (apparently since pulled, as we have been unable to find it), complete with images and details.

As you can see in the gallery, Nokia Maps for Windows Phone uses Microsoft’s Metro UI heavily, and serves up routing with public transport info (London Underground routes are factored in, at least), and user reviews and photos for locations.

Nokia Maps invades iPhone

The key question still to be answered is just which phones will support Nokia Maps. Nokia owns mapping service NAVTEQ, and one of the major selling points of its Symbian platform was Maps, which offered free turn by turn navigation.

It’s seen as the only potential rival to Google Maps on mobile, and Nokia boss Stephen Elop has gone on record to say other Windows Phone manufacturers would be able to use it – certainly support for all the 22 regions Windows Phone 7.5 Mango supports would suggest it’ll run in every territory at least.

Will it be a Nokia exclusive or not? Expect to find out more at Nokia World later this month, if not before.
