The Sony S1 tablet is the company’s late play in the game, but the wait isn’t much longer now. The curiously shaped slate goes on sale in the UK on 16 September, but it’s already up for pre-order right now at Dixons.

Head on over to the Dixons UK website, and you can place your order for a 1GB Wi-Fi only Sony S1 Android tablet this very instant. It rings up a fairly standard £399.99 on the till, while a 32GB version will set you back a much more eye watering £499.99, and ships on the 23rd. A Wi-Fi and 3G model is on the way, but does not yet have a launch date.

In case you missed the hubbub around it, the Sony S1 tablet runs Android Honeycomb 3.1, with a 9.4-inch touchscreen and Nvidia Tegra 2 processor inside. Unusually, it has a sloped back that bends around to act as a support. It is also PlayStation Certified, like the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play smartphone, and will allow you to play games using the Sony PS3 Bluetooth gamepad.

Will you be picking up the Sony S1 tablet? Already landed your cheap HP TouchPad and not fussed? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

I already have an Asus Transformer, and more than pleased with it. so no.

However this does look rather nice.

A 1GB tablet for £399.99???!!!  Don’t think I will have much space left after installing google maps and angry birds…

typo 16GB.  You can also expand that cheaply with MicroSD.  My Asus Transformer is rocking 64GB of internal storage, and it was only another £40.

Type your comment here. You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be really something which I think I would never understand. It seems too complicated and very broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post.

Don’t buy anything Sony. They won’t support it and when a new version of android comes out they will expect you to dump the old one for a new one. Buy a iPad instead long term you will be a lot better off and won’t curse the day you purchased a Sony product. Believe me I’ve been there.
