The Sony S1 tablet is the company’s late play in the game, but the wait isn’t much longer now. The curiously shaped slate goes on sale in the UK on 16 September, but it’s already up for pre-order right now at Dixons.
Head on over to the Dixons UK website, and you can place your order for a 1GB Wi-Fi only Sony S1 Android tablet this very instant. It rings up a fairly standard £399.99 on the till, while a 32GB version will set you back a much more eye watering £499.99, and ships on the 23rd. A Wi-Fi and 3G model is on the way, but does not yet have a launch date.
In case you missed the hubbub around it, the Sony S1 tablet runs Android Honeycomb 3.1, with a 9.4-inch touchscreen and Nvidia Tegra 2 processor inside. Unusually, it has a sloped back that bends around to act as a support. It is also PlayStation Certified, like the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play smartphone, and will allow you to play games using the Sony PS3 Bluetooth gamepad.
