This isn’t the first swivelly compact camera we’ve ever seen, but it’s perhaps the most cynical. Samsung’s MultiView MV800 was just unveiled at IFA in Berlin, packing a 3-inch flip-out display that Sammy says is specifically designed for “capturing the perfect self-portrait to polish your online profile.”

But, unfortunately, it doesn’t come with actual face-polish.

Perhaps we’re being harsh. Samsung does say the MultiView MV800 is also handy for “extreme low and high angled shots to demonstrate your photographic prowess” and to be fair, we can see how it’d be a boon at concerts, not to mention being a hit with the upskirting paparazzo fraternity.

Inside there are 16.1 megapixels nestling behind a 5x optical zoom. The lens is a 26mm wide-angle, and built-in “Live Panorama” functions let you sweep it across landscapes with ease. It’ll also hook up to a 3D TV to show off your snaps to people wearing silly glasses.

On balance, it’s not a bad effort, specs-wise. And Samsung says you’ll no longer need to “contort yourself” to get the perfect profile picture. We say that’s a shame: contorted profile pictures are often some of the best.
