Tim Cook is not having a good first week on the job. The new Apple boss has just taken the hotseat from Steve Jobs, and this lands in his inbox: The iPhone 5 has been lost in a bar, just like the iPhone 4, by a clumsy engineer.
According to Cnet, a test version of the iPhone 5 went walkabout in July, last sighted in a San Francisco tequila bar. The bar, Cava 22, has gone on record stating that a man called repeatedly about a lost iPhone a month ago, but they were unable to locate it.
Apple, according to reports, has called in the big guns. They tracked the iPhone’s signal to a home in the Bernal Heights area of San Francisco, where the owner gave police permission to search the premises. The search turned up nothing, however.
Last year Apple suffered a similar incident, losing a prototype iPhone 4 at a bar before it fell into the hands of tech blog Gizmodo. Charges against Gizmodo have now been dropped by Apple, setting an uncomfortable precedent. Could another tech blog soon get their hands on the iPhone 5? Stay tuned.
