Samsung next in line to purchase webOS?  Say it ain’t so.Here’s some kindling to keep the rumor mill burning. A report from DigiTimes suggests Samsung is considering purchasing webOS from HP. After recruiting HP’s ex-vice president of PSG marketing Raymond Wah to handle its PC sales, purchasing webOS would put Samsung in a position to competed head on with Apple and Google.

Previous rumors suggested Samsung was considering purchasing HP’s PC business. New findings have reveled the low gross margin of that business may actually hurt Samsung’s panel and DRAM businesses. Therefore webOS “may be the target” that Samsung has the most interest in.

Samsung Galaxy S II 4G LTE: bigger, faster and coming soonWith hurricane Irene hitting the east coast this weekend, Samsung’s US launch of the Galaxy S II was pushed back until Tuesday. The delay opened the door for an even bigger announcement, the Samsung Galaxy S II 4G LTE. By way of a Korean press release, Samsung confirmed that 4G LTE support was coming to its Galaxy S II and Galaxy Tab 8.9. Even better, the Galaxy S II 4G LTE tops the original across the board: bigger display, faster processor, larger battery and even the world’s first LTE/WCDMA/GSM radio.

LG’s OpenGL conversion tool takes smartphone gaming to the third dimensionRunning low on gaming titles for your LG Optimus 3D? LG has just demonstrated the world’s first OpenGL-based 2D to 3D conversion engine for smartphones at IFA 2011 in Berlin. The conversion engine will be included in the first maintenance release for the Optimus 3D in October. Any previously purchased 2D games will become 3D-enabled with the push of a button.

Amazon tablet will trump the iPad in affordability, arrives next monthAmazon has devised a clever yet unoriginally means of besting the iPad — it will focus on price. Using its economies of scale, Amazon will introduce its first tablet for “hundreds less” than Apple’s iPad 2. According to the New York Post, the company’s first of at least two Android tablets will be released in either September or October.

This is not our first rodeo with the Amazon’s tablet line. Back in May BGR reported that Amazon was working on two prototypes: the dual-core “Coyote” and the quad-core “Hollywood”. Assuming this information is accurate, the “Coyote” would presumably launch first — corresponding with the September or October time frame.

Apple iPhone prototype leaked: iPhone 4S, iPhone 5 or none of the above?Fresh images have surfaced of an alleged iPhone prototype. The N94 prototype is thought to be that of the iPhone 4S and carries an EVT (Engineering Verification Test) label dated June 7, 2011. This is not the first time we’ve seen mention of the prototype model, N94 has appeared in SDK code dating back to iOS 4.3. Is this the iPhone 5?
