While the iPad 3 will be put together by human hands, future iPad models could be assembled entirely by robots if new plans from Foxconn come to pass. The manufacturer which currently puts together most of Apple’s iPhone and iPad production runs, wants to introduce 1 million robots into its factories over the next three years.

Foxconn already has 10,000 robots in service but its founder and chairman, Terry Gou, revealed the plan to vastly increase its automated army and cut costs in a speech to workers. The new robots will take over tasks like spraying, welding and assembly which are currently done by humans. In a particularly cheery touch, Gou apparently made the announcement just before an employee dance party. Presumably no one felt like doing the robot after hearing the news.

The Nokia N9 was unveiled back in June but Nokia hasn’t got round to announcing an official release date for the Meego mobile yet. That hasn’t stopped Orange Switzerland from listing the Nokia N9 as set to arrive on September 15. Three in Sweden said last month that the Nokia N9 will launch there on September 23.

As well as potentially putting the Nokia N9 on a collision course with the iPhone 5 launch, a September release date means it will arrive in the same quarter as the first Nokia Windows Phone 7 device. The world’s first phone running Windows Phone 7 Mango is due in Japan early next month. Nokia promised its first Windows Phone 7 models will ship in Q4 2011 during its earnings call in May.

With no more than a few months to make its mark, the Nokia N9 could simply end up overshadowed by the coming wave of Windows Phone 7 devices. Click through to see the phone previewed on video and tell us: are you excited by the Nokia N9? Or is it just too late to go with Meego?

The consensus now seems to be that we’re certain to see the iPhone 5 launch in September. Chatter from the Far East last week suggested that iPhone 5 shipments are already on their way. Now an anonymous email, apparently from an AT&T employee, claims staff at the US carrier are banned from taking holiday at the end of September.

Read on to see what the self-proclaimed AT&T mole has to say and what that could mean for UK iPhone fans…

Sony hasn’t revealed an official PlayStation Vita release date yet, preferring to point to a vague “end of 2011″ launch window. However, over the weekend, a Blockbuster flyer popped up online with a date plastered across it. In a list of future releases including Batman Arkham City and Assassin’s Creed Revelations, it suggests the handheld will hit the UK on Friday 28 October.

Blockbuster has not commented on the veracity of the leaflet while Sony simply told IGN that the PlayStation Vita is due for a “phased global release” in the run up to Christmas. That October date would definitely fit with that plan and Sony has a history of not being able to keep launch dates secret so we wouldn’t be surprised to see the PlayStation Vita arrive as a pre-Halloween treat. If it does land then, will you be in line to get one? Hit the headline and jump into the comments to let us know.
