The PlayStation Vita UK launch won’t be until next year according to Sony Computer Entertainment CEO, Kazuo Hirai. He told reporters in Tokyo that the new handheld will hit Japan in December with the US and European launches following in early 2012.

It’s disappointing news, especially as just this week we had our hopes raised by that Blockbuster leaflet which suggested the PlayStation Vita would launch here in October.

It seems odd that Sony is willing to let the PlayStation Vita miss out on Christmas lists in the Europe and the US since 40% of its revenue came from those markets last year. Still the revelation is bound to put smiles on the faces of Nintendo execs who have been struggling to sell the Nintendo 3DS.

Wondering whether the PlayStation Vita will be worth the wait? Check out our PlayStation Vita guide.

The latest bit of Call of Duty: Black Ops DLC is all about zombies. Call of Duty: Black Ops Rezurrection will shamble into view on August 23 with five maps and all new weapons and gear added into the mix. Four of the maps (Nacht der Untoten, Verruckt, Shi No Numa and Der Riese) are remastered versions of the zombie battles included with the Call of Duty: Black Ops special editions. The fifth, Moon, is brand new and takes the undead into space.

Along with the maps, Call of Duty: Black Ops Rezurrection will include an enhanced zombie soundtrack adding three new songs and zombie moon dashboard theme. If you’ve already grabbed the Hardened or Prestige edition of the game you’ll get the updated maps and new content for free. If not, Call of Duty: Black Ops Rezurrection will set you back 1200 MS points. Sadly there’s no news on the PS3 version of the DLC yet.

We were complaining just yesterday about the Sony Android tablet teasers and their lack of specs. And lo! The gadget gods have delivered some. CrashPad went snooping around Sony’s eSupport site and discovered a troubleshooting document for the unreleased Sony S1 and Sony S2 tablets. They grabbed eight screens which show that Android Honeycomb 3.2 is destined to run on them and got a peek at other features including the Music Player app.

The Sony Android tablet screenshots also show bundled Sony apps like Chumby and Crash Bandicoot. Google apps are all present and correct as well as Foursquare and Evernote. Unsurprisingly, the page hosting the Android tablet info has now been pulled from the Sony site but you can see all the leaked screenshots at the link below.

Google has gone public with its anger towards Microsoft, Apple and Oracle in the ongoing patent battle which it claims is all about making Android phones more expensive. The attack follows the purchase of a cache of patents from Nortel, the bankrupt Canadian telecoms giant, by a consortium including Microsoft, Apple, Sony and RIM, a move which left Google out in the cold.

In a post on the company’s official blog, Google’s chief legal officer, David Drummond, accused its rivals of attempting to impose a “tax” on Android devices. But his claims led to swift retaliation from Microsoft which claims Google was invited to join one of the patent bids and turned the offer down…
