In the trio of BlackBerry 7 handsets that RIM revealed last week, the BlackBerry Bold 9900 was definitely the best of the bunch with build quality that bested the new BlackBerry Torch 9810 and BlackBerry Torch 9860 models. It’s good news for BlackBerry fans then that Vodafone has put the BlackBerry Bold 9900 up for preorder with a promise that it’ll arrive next week.

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 will set you back £41 a month on a two-year contract if you want to get the handset free. Drop to the next lowest price plan (£39 a month) and it will cost you £99 with a 2 year contract. Vodafone is promising a delivery date of August 16 if you sign up today. If you’re enamoured with hammering out emails on a good solid keyboard, then the BlackBerry 9900 could well be worth nabbing.

Orange has expanded its mission to own your week’s entertainment with a new service called Film To Go offering customers a free iTunes movie rental each week. As with its popular Orange Wednesdays cinema deal, customers just have to text to nab a promotional code.

While the text (FILMTOGO to 85060) costs 35p, the iTunes movie rental itself is free and can be watched on a computer, iOS device or Apple TV. As with standard iTunes movie rentals, your free flick remains valid for 30 days but once you start watching you’ve got 48 hours to finish it. The first film on offer is My Blueberry Nights with The Wrestler following it next week.

The HTC Puccini, the 10in Android Honeycomb tablet that’s yet to make its way out of the Taiwanese tablet maker’s labs, has been unofficially previewed again. PocketNow has got hold of a series of screenshots purportedly from the device that show how HTC plans to take advantage of its 1280×800 resolution.

The HTC Puccini screens show a full size keyboard with a number pad and the pen icon is present and correct which seems to confirm previous suggestions that the Scribe stylus introduced with the HTC Flyer will make a return. PocketNow predicts that the HTC Puccini is two or three months away from launch in the US but we suspect it might arrive even sooner. Sadly there’s no news on a European incarnation yet.

Long time readers of Electricpig will know that I’ve been quite the advocate of Android. I prefer the less stringent conditions for runnings apps on it, and I love how seamlessly it works with your Google account.

What I do not love is that even after more than three years since the first Android phone was released, it can still delete ALL of your text messages in the blink of an eye. Google, this is *not* acceptable.

When Apple announced iCloud, it promised to keep MobileMe accounts active until June 30, 2012. Now it’s revealed how the transition from paying £59 for 20GB of storage with MobileMe to the selection of iCloud storage plans will work. While iCloud offers 5GB free, MobileMe customers will automatically signed up to the 25GB plan.

The extra 20GB of storage will be free until the MobileMe shutdown date of June 30, 2012. That means MobileMe customers switching to iCloud will get a few months reward for their loyalty but you should make sure to mark your calendar. Apple is also automatically signing up users for recurring billing, so you’ll have to stump up £28 when MobileMe closes if you don’t downgrade your plan before then.

Talk of vastly improved iOS voice control features has been around since Apple bought Siri in April 2010 and iOS 5 is increasingly looking like the update that will deliver them. Reports last month suggested we’ll see Siri’s artificial intelligence skills baked into a new iOS 5 feature called Assistant, now screenshots have emerged purporting to show how the speech-to-text function will work.

9to5Mac claims to have got the grabs from a reliable source. It shows a new microphone icon on the keyboard which will activate speech recognition with a microphone overlay appearing while you’re talking, just as it does with current iOS voice control features. Interestingly, the source claims Apple will only bring the speech-to-text feature to the iPhone and iPod touch initially. That sounds odd as there’s no obvious reason to exclude the iPad.

With iOS 5 still in beta and the iPhone 5 still just a collection of rumours, there’s no guarantee as to what voice control will end up in the finished product. Click the headline and jump into the comments to let us know what you want Apple to include.
