Boxee has bounced onto the iPad. The Boxee iPad app is an intriguing proposition whether you’ve got a Boxee Box or not, hooking up to your Facebook, Tumblr and Twitter accounts to pull together the videos your contacts share online. If you’re used to using Flipboard on your iPad to catch up on articles, it’s essentially the video equivalent.

Sharing your pictures of fireworks on Facebook could be a little tricky if some self-proclaimed members of Anonymous get their way. Part of the amorphous hacker collective has announced that it will attack Facebook on November 5. It’s an appropriate date given the group’s well-known love of the V For Vendetta Guy Fawkes mask.

A video press release, featuring the usual Anonymous tropes of ominous music and a synthesised voice, calls for help in taking down Facebook and accuses the social network of sharing information with government agencies. However, messages from the Anonymous Twitter account (@anonops) state: “#OpFacebook is being organised by some Anons. This does not necessarily mean that all of #Anonymous agrees with it.”

You can see the video message after the jump. We’ll have to wait until November 5 to find out if those threatening to take down Facebook actually achieve it but we suspect the billion dollar enterprise will bounce back anyhow…

Amazon has quietly outed a way to get round Apple’s restrictions on iOS in-app purchases: the Amazon Kindle Cloud Reader. We thought Amazon had simply acquiesced to Apple when it killed the store link in its Kindle iPhone and iPad apps but it had a Plan B in the works. The Kindle Cloud Reader is a totally web-based version of the eBook reader app that works with Chrome and Safari and comes optimised for the iPad. The iPhone isn’t supported yet but that can only be a matter of time.

While the Kindle Cloud Reader allows you to read your books online, you can also download them for offline reading using HTML5 or a Chrome browser extension. We’ve tried it out this morning and it works like a charm. The ability to switch between the Kindle Store and your library on the iPad is also a treat. It’s worth noting that reading books in Kindle Cloud Reader counts towards your device limit but since that’s usually six different devices you’re unlikely to hit it.

The Kindle Cloud Reader is a really slick bit of thinking from Amazon and you can try it out for yourself at the link below. Hit the headline and jump into the comments to give us your review.

Nintendo and The Cloud partner up for 3DS Wi-Fi dealA new partnership between Nintendo UK and The Cloud will allow 3DS users to access more than 5,000 Wi-Fi hotspots for free. Starting today all of The Cloud’s access points will allow 3DS owners to access content via the Nintendo SpotPass service, access the Nintendo eShop or browse the Internet. Nintendo also took the opportunity to call out the PlayStation Vita during the announcement, “this is what Wi-Fi offers compared to a technology such as 3G, which struggles to handle really rich, data-hungry video content.”

lg gslateYour favorite 8.9-inch Android tablet, the LG G-Slate, should start to see an Android 3.1 Honeycomb update roll out today. Over on the LG Forum, a forum moderator by the name of LG Product Pro broke the news yesterday saying “the update should start pushing out today or tomorrow.” The Android 3.1 Honeycomb update had been expected since late June.

At the time of publishing this report, no users of the LG forum had reported receiving the over-the-air (OTA) update. With the Motorola Xoom receiving its Android 3.2 update last week, the LG G-Slate desperately needs to keep pace. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for a manual download link, but if you happen to receive the OTA update notification, please do let us know.
