Nikon-COOLPIX-S6150

Not content to let Sony hog the limelight with the Sony NEX-7 and Sony NEX-5N, Nikon has revealed an avalanche of new Coolpix cameras today. Heading up the pack is the 10.1MP Nikon Coolpix P7100, the successor to the Nikon Coolpix P7000, which follows its predecessor’s example by packing serious specs into a compact package.

It’s joined by the Nikon Coolpix S6200 and Nikon Coolpix S8200, a pair of 16MP superzoom snappers, the skinny 14MP Nikon Coolpix S4150 and the punchy 16MP Nikon Coolpix S6150. We’ve corralled all the specs for this cavalcade of Coolpix compacts after the break…

While the Sony NEX-7 is incredibly impressive, if you’ve not got that kind of cash to splash, Sony’s outed another addition to the line today. The Sony NEX-5N, a successor to the Sony NEX-5, features a sensor boost from 14.2MP to 16.1MP and slims the magnesium-alloy body down from 24.2mm thick to just 23.3mm thin. The Sony NEX-5N has a 10fps continuous shooting mode just like its bigger brother, comes with a touch-enabled 3in LCD screen and packs a upgraded BIONZ processor that can ramp the ISO up to 25,600.

The Sony NEX-5N also includes 1080 / 60p AVCHD video capture and the option of adding an XGA OLED electronic viewfinder (priced at $350 in the US) using the accessory port. There are also full manual controls and the ability to edit your compositions with the in-camera Picture Effects mode. The Sony NEX-5N takes E-Mount lenses and is due for release in September. Sony hasn’t put a UK price tag on the model yet but we’ll update you as soon as it does.

Android Market 3.1.3 leaked: adds PIN security and Google+ integrationA new version of the Android Market (v 3.1.3) has been leaked ahead of Google’s formal announcement. The update brings two noteworthy additions: PIN security to prevent accidental purchases and built-in Google+1 support. The next time you lend out your phone you won’t have to worry about finding five versions of Angry Birds installed when it’s returned.

PIN security for the Android Market has been been a long time in the making. Being able to protect our handsets from accidental or unwanted purchases is more of a necessity than a perk as far as we’re concerned. The addition of Google+1 to the market is convenient, but not nearly as valuable.

Budget 8GB iPhone 4 to launch late September alongside iPhone 5A report from Reuters claims the budget-mind iPhone rumored by BGR in July will actually be an 8GB version of the iPhone 4. The smaller capacity iPhone is set to launch in late September or early October alongside the iPhone 5. As usual, the news comes from “two people with knowledge of the matter”, so take the report with a grain of salt.

The sources not only confirmed the existence of an 8GB iPhone 4, they also confirmed the flash memory is being manufactured by a Korean company — though they failed to explicitly mention its name. Currently, Apple sources its flash drives from Toshiba in Japan and Samsung in South Korea.
