Samsung unwraps bada 2.0 SDK, confirms three new smartphones for 2011Like an episode of ‘The Sopranos’, bada boom bada bing. Samsung, by way of a press release, announced the launch of bada 2.0 SDK this morning. The application development tool has received a major overhaul and now supports multi-tasking, Wi-Fi Direct, NFC and voice recognition. In addition to the SDK, three new Wave smartphones will launch this later year, bringing the total to ten devices.

Leading the charge in bada 2.0 is improved support for web applications, namely Flash and HTML5. Samsung has also introduced In-app Ads, opening the door for new revenue opportunities for developers with a simple Ads API. To revamp the development process Samsung has released a new Emulator which optimizes device performance by improving memory and processing power.

Thought bada was a fad? Think again, Sim Stanford of Samsung UK and Ireland said, “whilst we will continue to work with partners including Google and Microsoft, bada will be a big focus for us in the future as we work to make it a leading mobile platform.”

A little known fact about Samsung’s application store (Samsung Apps) is that it houses roughly 40,000 applications and is available in 121 countries. With over 100 million downloads as of March 2011, the launch of bada 2.0 SDK will keep that gravy train flowing. There’s been no word on the specifics of the three Wave smartphone launching later this year, but we’ll keep you posted as the story develops.
