EA will limit sales of Star Wars: The Old Republic: ‘when they are gone, they are gone’Prepare to have your inner Jedi blown. EA has announced plans to avoid potential server capacity issues for the upcoming launch of its MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic. Launch quantities of both the retail and digital versions of the game will be limited to “ensure players have a smooth and high quality game experience”.

If you were thinking about holding off on that Star Wars: The Old Republic pre-order, think again. EA, while speaking with Gamasutra, said that, “all versions of the game — physical and digital — are available for pre-order on a limited basis only. Once they are gone, they are gone.” It appears the game’s record pre-orders have the team at EA walking on egg shells.

Despite its limited availability, Star Wars: The Old Republic is still on track for a 2011 release. Anyone else planning to pre-order the game following today’s news?

Isn’t this just a lame way of creating pre-launch hype?  I can see the media press release now about fastest selling game of this year so far….
