With Windows Phone Mango due to drop next month and Gamescom in full flow over in Frankfurt, Microsoft has revealed how the next Windows Phone update will change the Games Hub and add new Xbox Live features…

First up, it’s bringing Avatar Awardables to Windows Phone. Described as “achievements but wearable”, you’ll gain clothing to dress your avatar with based on game events. The first title to support it will be a rather odd proposition called Chickens Can’t Fly where you play a scientist experimenting on some unlucky poultry.

Along with Avatar Awardables, Windows Phone Mango will introduce Game Add-Ons, in-game game purchases which will use Microsoft Points to grab things like extra weapons or levels, Fast Async, to improve asynchronous multiplayer games, and improved parental controls. The ability to prevent children from getting at certain games on your Windows Phone device is arriving ahead of truly adult titles for the platform – Splinter Cell: Conviction for Windows Phone is set to launch this autumn.

The 14 new Xbox Live titles announced by Microsoft as arriving in time for the Windows Phone Mango update are slightly more kid-friendly including Kinectimals Mobile which ports the cutesy Kinect game to the small screen. Meh….

Does anyone actually care about buying silly ingame crap from overpriced Xbox Live, much less than anyone actually care about Microsoft’s crappy mobile platform?
