What’s that you say? Lower the price and you’ll increase sales? Nintendo heard the message loud and clear when it slashed the price of the 3DS last week. Following the announcement, sales of the portable 3D console plummeted from 31,826 units to just 16,416. Over the past seven days in Japan, Nintendo has managed to sell a staggering 215,000 units.
Increasing sales by 13 times in a week is incredible. If sales outside of Japan are even remotely as good, the Nintendo 3DS could be back on track as a contender in portable gaming within the month. To put this week’s sales into perspective, Nintendo shipped over 350,000 units in Japan the week after launch. In May this number dropped to 109,000 units. Welcome to the rebirth of the Nintendo 3DS.
What about Sony? The new £99 PSP E-1000 will be the biggest threat to the now £115 3DS. Though the PSP E-1000 lacks Wi-Fi, the portable console still offers more mature titles and razor sharp graphics. Now we’d like to hear from you. Which portable console offers the most compelling package? The £115 Nintendo 3DS or the £99 PSP E-1000?
