Motorola Droid HD leak leaves Droid Bionic dead on arrival [photos]Like the saying goes, hero today bum tomorrow. The once rumored Motorola Droid HD has just been photographed side-by-side with the fabled Droid Bionic. While the Droid Bionic reaped our praise at CES this year, the past eight months have opened the door to an Android market dominated by the Galaxy S II. The Droid HD looks to be Motorola’s answer to Samsung’s indomitable handset.

As with any leak, please take the following report with a grain of salt. The Motorola Droid HD allegedly shares the same qHD 4.5-inch display as the Bionic, but does so in a much svelte package. The source of the photos claims the device is “Galaxy S II slim” and packs the same dual-core TI OMAP4430 processor found in the Motorola Droid 3, but ups the ante with 1GB of RAM (instead of 512MB). Other highlights include a 1080P video capture, an 8-megapixel camera and a front-facing camera.

The silver lining for the Droid Bionic is that the Motorola Droid HD is not a 4G LTE handset. Instead, this is a global phone which a 3G SIM slot destined for travel. Given its 4G-less facet, the Droid HD will not replace the Bionic for those needing the fastest mobile broadband on Verizon Wireless. It does, however, open the door to a worldwide GSM launch which is exactly what Motorola needs in order to challenge the Galaxy S II.
