The world’s first PlayStation certified smartphone has locked horns with the number one sports franchise on the planet. This holiday season the Xperia Play will have first dibs at FIFA 12 thanks to a “limited time exclusive agreement”. All other Android devices will have to sit on the sidelines and wait until the general release on February 21, 2012. But wait, that’s not all.
Not only will the Xperia Play be the first handset to play FIFA 12, the entire football gameplay experience has been built around its unique hardware. The combination of its dedicated GPU and optimized memory bandwidth will help deliver a silk smooth 60 frames per second. Not sold yet?
“FIFA 12 will undoubtedly be one of this year’s most popular games and Xperia Play consumers will be able to master it before any other Android users,” said, Dominic Neil-Dwyer, Head of Market Development for Sony Ericsson.
There’s no telling how deep the ties run between Sony Ericsson and EA Mobile just yet. There’s a distinct possibility that FIFA 12 is the start of a series of planned “limited time exclusive” releases. Only time will tell, but things are looking up for the lone PlayStation certified smartphone. First Minecraft Pocket Edition and now FIFA 12 — not too shabby.
