Nintendo and The Cloud partner up for 3DS Wi-Fi dealA new partnership between Nintendo UK and The Cloud will allow 3DS users to access more than 5,000 Wi-Fi hotspots for free. Starting today all of The Cloud’s access points will allow 3DS owners to access content via the Nintendo SpotPass service, access the Nintendo eShop or browse the Internet. Nintendo also took the opportunity to call out the PlayStation Vita during the announcement, “this is what Wi-Fi offers compared to a technology such as 3G, which struggles to handle really rich, data-hungry video content.”

“The Cloud partnership represents another exciting step that will continue to expand its appeal and encourage owners to take their Nintendo 3DS systems with them wherever they go, offering different and unique experiences everyday,” said Nintendo UK marketing director Dawn Paine.

Free Wi-Fi access and an upcoming price cut will undoubtedly put Sony in a tough position when it launches the PlayStation Vita early next year. Whether or not Nintendo can meet sales forecasts is another issue altogether. Any 3DS owners planning on tapping into the 5,000+ free Wi-Fi hotspots with their portable consoles?

Yea the person who made that statement about Vita is a total dumbass because
    1. Vita has 3G as well as wifi. It not only has wifi, it has a,b,g and draft n wifi. 3DS has b,g
    2. Sony made a deal with Tmobile to give PSP owners free wifi and Nintendo did nothing for DS owners
    3. Sony made a deal with At&t to give Vita owners free wifi in the US at least. At&t has the largest wifi hotspots in the US which also happen to give free wifi at McDonals, Burger Kings, Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, and thousands of other locations.

Isnt it quiet obvious that 3G lacks the speed of wifi but wifi lacks 3G’s always on connected ability. Vita’s 3G service is not aimed at watching “really rich, data-hungry video content” it is aimed at
    1. Downloading dlc, games
    2. Video chatting, Voice Chatting, IMing, Emailing Friends and Web Browsing
    3. Uploading and downloading save data to and from the cloud
    4. Streaming light music via Qriocity service
    5. Getting updates from Developers and publishers and friends.
    6. Syncing trophies and achievement stats to the cloud

So as you can see, that statement is pretty stupid and a cheap shot at Sony by Nintendo.
