Looking for the best in home theater entertainment? Sharp has announced the return of an iconic line of TVs with the relaunch of the Elite brand. The new Sharp Elite TVs will be LED LCDs instead of Plasma sets, capable of delivering the “highest caliber picture quality and technology available.” There’s two sizes, a 60 or 70 inch model and both units will be available later this month.
The departure from Pioneer to Sharp for the Elite line is a bold move. The two sets carry a premium price, the 60-inch (PRO-60X5FD) model is $6000 (£3666) and the 70-inch (PRO-70X5FD) models is $8500 (£5176). On a positive note, both units are THX-certified and come bundled with two sets of active-shutter 3D glasses.
Like your favorite Transformer, there’s more than meets the eye to the Elite brand. The Sharp Elite TVs are 1080p sets with full-array LED backlights, delivering local dimming, “better-than-240Hz” technology, Internet access, streaming services and remote technical support for the TV’s settings.
Engineers from Pioneer worked closely with Sharp through the developmental process and since Sharp is the largest shareholder of Pioneer, the influence runs deep. Using Sharp’s Quattron color technology (RGB+Y), a yellow sub-pixel has been added to the standard RGB color palette providing a wider range of colors. Another key feature is “FluidMotion” which helps both sets achieve the equivalent of a 720HZ effect. By quadrupling 240Hz technology with a scanning backlight, the Sharp Elite TVs eliminate all motion blur.
