Samsung Hercules: a Samsung Galaxy S II with a massive 4.5-inch displayLike the son of Zeus himself, the Samsung Hercules is a demigod of smartphones. This Galaxy S II variant is expected to debut in late September when it launches in North America. Beyond the larger-than-life 4.5-inch display is an eight-megapixel camera, Android 2.3 with TouchWiz 4.0, and four capacitive buttons.

According to PocketNow, the Samsung Hercules is powered by a Qualcomm processor clocked at 1.2 GHz (not Samsung’s Exynos chip). In addition, 1 GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage come standard. At this point two carriers have been confirmed for delivery: T-Mobile USA and Telus in Canada. In fact, the phone was first spotted in the wild at a Samsung Mobile concert in Toronto.

MobileSyrup has come forward with several additional details from its time with the Hercules at a VIP event. The site believes this could be the first dual carrier 42 Mbps HSPA+ smartphone in Canada. The eight-megapixel camera is capable of capturing 1080p HD video and the front-facing camera is “possibly 2-megapixel”. The site believes a Telus launch will arrive in the “back-to-school” time frame, but there’s been no support evidence thus far.
