The HTC Flyer will finally have a competitor next month when the Acer Iconia Tab A100 is officially released. We had our doubts as to whether the tablet would see a release, but alas Acer has gone official with an announcement. The A100 will be released in ‘early August’ and the company promises the delays are in the past.
As the younger brother to the 10-inch Acer A500, we began to wonder what happened to the A100 when a 4G version of the A500 (the A501) randomly showed up on Amazon for pre-order. So what took the A100 so long to arrive? According to Engadget, Acer A100 was delayed because of Honeycomb’s restrictions on 7-inch displays.
Just a refresher, the A100 features a 1 GHz Tegra 2 processor, 512MB of RAM, 8GB internal storage and a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1024×600 pixels. There’s no telling how well the A100 will fare against the similarly equipped HTC Flyer, but we welcome competition. The Acer A100 carries a suggested retail price of $300.
