We’ve heard whispers of a Samsung Galaxy R phone on the way, and that it’s a slightly downgraded version of our five-star rated Samsung Galaxy S 2 phone. And what do you know? A thoroughly legit looking video has popped up online showing it in action.

Sammy Hub‘s obtained a support video for the Samsung Galaxy R phone and posted it online, running through its features. As you’d expect, it looks rather like the Galaxy S 2, though even in this video you can see the 4.2-inch Super LCD screen isn’t quite up to the eye-popping standards of the 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display on its bigger brother.

The phone reportedly uses a dual-core 1GHz Tegra 2 processor and packs a five megapixel camera capable of shooting 720p HD video, and appears to pack the exact same software – Android 2.3 with Samsung’s decent-ish hubs skin.

That similarity suggests it’s a phone intended for other markets rather than the UK, to plug the gap caused by limited AMOLED supplies. But hey, we wouldn’t say no to much of the same for less.
