It’s been a big week for Amazon Android tablet rumours with reports yesterday that we’ll see the first model in October. Now whispers are reaching us from the Far East that Foxconn is in the frame to build Amazon’s second Android tablet.
While the manufacturer is best known for its deals building Apple hardware including the iPad 2 and iPhone 4, it also said to be on course to pump out 12 million units of the Amazon Kindle this year…
Previous reports have suggested that there are at least two Amazon Android tablets in the pipeline with a smaller model, code-named Coyote, due to launch first with a dual-core Tegra 2 processor and 7in screen. The model supposedly being prepped by Foxconn is likely to be the larger 10.1in model codenamed Hollywood with a quad-core NVIDIA Kal-El chip.
While neither Foxconn nor Amazon will comment on the reports, their previous relationships make the deal sound likely. Though Amazon has never officially confirmed that it is planning Android tablets, its CEO Jeff Bezos has previously dropped major hints and the opening of the Amazon Android app store clearly laid the groundwork.
