The prospect of a Windows Phone 7 tablet has been shot down again by a senior Microsoft exec.
After Steve Ballmer made light of disappointing Windows Phone 7 sales at the same event earlier this week, Windows Phone 7 president, Andy Lees, took to the stage at the Worldwide Partners Conference to reaffirm the company’s belief that the world wants Windows 8 tablets…
Explaining why Microsoft is determined to bring Windows 8 to tablets rather than retooling its mobile OS, Lees simply said: “We view a tablet as a PC.”
While Apple has attempted to position the iPad 2 as a product of the “post-PC” age, Microsoft needs to translate traditional desktop sales into a tablet future. It’s not surprising then that it’s sticking to its guns with Windows 8 tablets.
Is Microsoft right to lump tablets together with PCs? Or is it madness to keep Windows Phone 7 strictly for mobiles?
