The Samsung Galaxy S 2 is selling like hotcakes and is, by all accounts including our Samsung Galaxy S 2 review, a pretty hot bit of hardware. Now it seems like Samsung could be about to try and use that success as a springboard for a new Windows Phone 7 device.

Clues that the Samsung Galaxy S 2 could be reborn in Windows Phone 7 form have popped up in device testing logs. Read on for the intriguing evidence that the successor to the Samsung Omnia 7 may be from a different galaxy…

The first clue that a Samsung Galaxy S2-style phone with Windows Phone 7 onboard is being toyed with comes from the Bluetooth SIG. It shows a device with the model number SGH-i937 in its listings. That’s a leap of 10 from the Samsung Galaxy S2′s model number (SGH-i927) while the original Samsung Omnia 7′s model number was SGH-i917.

Besides the circumstantial numbering, the mysterious SGH-i937 shares the same Bluetooth characteristics as a Windows Phone 7 Mango device. It also shows up on a list of Windows Phone 7 phones logged by developer Occasional Gamer which previously revealed the Dell Venue Pro was out in the wild way before its official launch.

While doesn’t all add up to a watertight case for a new Windows Phone 7 device from Samsung, the combination of the Samsung Galaxy S 2 hardware with Windows Phone 7 would definitely make a compelling combo. Would you pick one up if Samsung took the plunge?

And why would anyone want a downgraded Android Galaxy S2 running Windows Mobile 7?

I’m guessing Microsoft are hoping to sell a few by accident to unsuspecting punters.

Windows Phone “Mango” is an upgrade over the Android device.

Only in your Microsoft shill world.   Ever wonder why Microsoft has barely sold more than a couple of hundred thousand WP7 handsets?  Because they are shit.  That’s why.
