The fifth generation iPhone, the iPhone 4S or 5, is due out late August or early September. As we patiently await its arrival, it’s time to open the door for design concepts of the sixth generation iPhone — the iPhone Air. The design concept mixes the side profile of the MacBook Air and a beautiful edgeless display. This is the iPhone Apple should develop.
The HTC Flyer will finally have a competitor next month when the Acer Iconia Tab A100 is officially released. We had our doubts as to whether the tablet would see a release, but alas Acer has gone official with an announcement. The A100 will be released in ‘early August’ and the company promises the delays are in the past.
All aboard, the HTC money train is now leaving the station. The Taiwanese giant announced net profits of NT$17.51 billion for the second quarter, up 18 percent from last quarter and 103 percent on the year. HTC shipped 12.1 million units in the quarter, up 25 percent over last and 124 percent on the year.
Motorola Mobility came up big with an increase in handset, smartphone and tablet sales in the second quarter, but still managed to post a net loss. The company shipped 11 million handsets, including 4.4 million smartphones compared to 9.3 million handsets and 4.1 million smartphones in the first quarter. Motorola Xoom shipments nearly doubled, up from 250,000 in the first quarter to 440,000.
Sony Ericsson is prepared to blur the line between tablet and smartphone with its upcoming 4.7-inch 3D display. The massive display will be featured on the company’s first 3D phone, a device many believe will arrive early next year. Unfortunately mystery phone lacks a name, but we have confirmed it will support glasses-free 3D technology and runs at HD 1280×720 pixel resolution. Do we really need another 3D smartphone?
A release date has been set for the Olympus E-PL3, a more compact and modern looking mid-range spin off of the PEN E-P3. As the latest addition to the Olympus PEN lineup, the E-PL3 will launch alongside the new VF-3 electronic viewfinder this September. With four color choices (black, white, red, silver) and two camera bundles to choose from, the micro four thirds game now has a new challenger.
