The French tech giant is breaking away from media players to unveil its third Android tablet in Paris next Thursday (with the UK event scheduled for June 28th), and the exciting news is it’s running Honeycomb.

All good, but what does it need to compete with the big boys? Well we can think of a few things…

Obviously Duke Nukem Forever is the Chinese Democracy of gaming. Not only because like the legendarily delayed Guns N’ Roses record the game took so long to get into shops but in that it revives a pop culture icon whose moves are long past their prime.

Duke Nukem is as cringeworthy as Axl Rose’s corn rows, a 1990s character still trying to kick ass and chew bubble gum in a world that has long since moved on. I loved Duke Nukem 3D as much as the next 12-year-old in 1996 but 15 years later, there’s not a lot of laughs left…

Rumours around a new Xbox to succeed the Xbox 360 are a hardly perennial of the gadget rumour mill. This time, despite lots of speculation that a new console won’t arrive until 2013 at the earliest, an anonymous source at Crysis 2 developer Crytek claims a next gen Xbox prototype is already being used to develop TimeSplitters 4.

Beyond the fact that TimeSplitters 4 doesn’t seem like it would be the highest priority title to prepare for a new Xbox, Kinect games are selling well and Microsoft has just announced a pile of big titles for 2012, notably Halo 4. We’d love to see a new console from Microsoft in 2012 but we think this one will remain firmly in the box marked “wishful thinking”.

The best Android keyboards apps? That’s right: if you’re an iPhone user, BlackBerry addict or Windows Phone 7 fan, you may not know that Android lets you change what keyboard you use to type with. Don’t like the one your Sony Ericsson comes with? Go get another.

It’s a tremendously useful option to have, but with so many different keyboards available on the Android Market, it can be hard to know which to pick. That’s where we come in: we’ve tested every single one to find out which is best, whichever Android phone you use, and whatever your WPM count is. Read on for our verdict.

Push your keyboard to one side, Google Chrome will now listen to your queries. Google voice search which has been built into the search giant’s mobile apps for some time has now hit the desktop. The Google Chrome voice control features are rolling out now and all you need to use them is a built-in mic.

To access voice search in Google Chrome, you simply click the microphone icon in the far right corner of the search box and speak your query. Google says its English voice search system now recognises 230 billion words and the guy demonstrating it in the video after the break shows off a little (“weather for Schenectady, New York”, anyone?)…

Almost every Xbox 360 can handle 3D gaming already – if you’ve got an early model without HDMI, you’re out of luck – but an over-enthusiastic tweeter at Microsoft’s Israeli R&D team has hinted that a substantial 3D update could be on the way.

A rumour was posted by Hebrew-language tech site Gadgety.co.il suggesting that Microsoft has an Xbox 360 software update on the cards to add enhanced support for HD stereoscopic 3D. The Microsoft researchers then retweeted the story with a comment that translates as: “What do you think of a 3D console?”

There’s been plenty of sensible speculation that the iPad 3 will arrive packing a Retina screen and now a clue lurking in iOS 5 has revived those thoughts. Previous versions of iOS have revealed future hardware specs so new software code is always worth combing through.

Back in January, before the iPad 2 arrived, images emerged online of iPad apps with icons twice the size needed for the 1024×768 iPad screen. That sent the rumour mill into a spin suggesting that we’d see an iPad 2 Retina display. It was not to be but code related to the iOS 5 Twitter integration appears to be hiding a magic number…

4G LTE: Does it really live up to the hype?Long term evolution. The term akin to the biggest marketing play of 2011, “4G”. As a fourth generation wireless technology, LTE promises unparalleled speeds in both uplink and downlink, thereby transforming our smartphones into truly portable broadband connections. Theoretical speeds aside, we’re on a quest to find out if LTE delivers the goods.

In the US, Verizon Wireless has created the only nationwide 4G LTE network. T-Mobile USA and AT&T are planning a similar roll out, but for the time being rely on HSPA+ as their 4G technology. Meanwhile Sprint’s 4G WiMax network was the first on the scene.
