The black MacBook Air rumour that began earlier this week may actually have some truth to it but don’t expect to pick up one too soon. An anonymous tipster claiming to be an Apple engineer told Mac Rumors that a black powder-coated MacBook Air was created but failed to make the grade.

The email claims Steve Jobs rejected the black MacBook air because the coating showed a tendency for soaking up body oils. Yep, we think that sounds fairly grim too. Head through to see what the alleged insider had to say about the issue:

Yes, we know Grand Theft Auto 5 has been rattling around the rumour mill for ages now but it’s back on the cards again. With Red Dead Redemption and LA Noire out of the gate, Grand Theft Auto 5 is on the slate again. The chatter says it’ll be released in 2012, development is “well under way” and that “it’s the big one”.

nokia-bh-11-2

If the Nokia N9 looks a lot like a Windows Phone, the new Nokia BH-11 Bluetooth stereo headset bears more than a passing resemblance to Apple’s little MP3 player. Of course, it can’t play tunes on its own, but the A2DP clip weights just 15.5g, can pair with two devices and stream music for six hours continuously.

It comes in black, white, green, cyan or magenta, and is out in Summer, priced €39 (£35). Now, if only we could have a Nokia Windows Phone so soon.

It’s not often that you get to see a urban legend coming into being in real time but hop onto Twitter today and you’re likely to come across an entertaining missive purporting to be a four-letter word bolstered brush off written by Sean Connery to Steve Jobs. The story goes that Jobs wanted the Bond actor to feature in an ad but it’s just that…a story.

The fake letter was put together by Apple satire site Scoopertino but shorn of its context it’s floating around on TwitPic and being reported as a genuine article. You’d think the brutal line “you are a computer salesman and I am f*cking James Bond” might have tipped more people off.

Click through to see the fake letter in all its glory and hit the link at the bottom of the page for the original Scoopertino story. Our favourite entirely fictional fact? That the Apple iMac puck mouse was inspired by a burnt English muffin…

Nokia-N9-b

As predicted, Nokia has finally pulled the covers of the Nokia N9 during the Nokia Connection event in Singapore. While the Nokia N9 is the company’s first MeeGo phone it shares more than a little bit of a resemblance with the Windows Phone 7 concepts the Finns have flaunted in photos. Certainly the same range of wild colours is on the cards.

If you’ve been eagerly waiting to see what Nokia would do with Linux-based MeeGo OS, you can find the full specs and a handy video guide after the jump. The big question is: will you go for MeeGo or wait for Nokia’s love-in with Windows Phone 7 to make its debut later this year?

HP Opal 7-inch webOS tablet spotted, pocket-sized slate inbound? The HP TouchPad officially became available for pre-order today. With a July 1st launch in the U.S. and a mid-July release scheduled for the UK, the 9.7-inch webOS slate is hoarding the lime light. That is, until now.

A 7-inch webOS slate has emerged from the shadows as the HP Opal. The Opal, once mentioned back in January, is listed as a compatible device while browsing through the selection of featured webOS apps.
