Did Stephen Elop just leak a Windows Phone-powered N9 codenamed Sea Ray?It appears our intuition served us well in yesterday’s headline when we called the N9 “the MeeGo phone with Windows Phone looks.” In a “super confidential” presentation this morning, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop asked a crowd of attendees to put their cameras away before unveiling a Windows Phone-powered device with overwhelming resemblance to the N9, codenamed ‘Sea Ray’.

Other than a slightly different LED placement on the back of ‘Sea Ray’, the device is almost a mirror image of the N9 — it even uses the same 8-megapixel Carl Zeiss lens. There is however, a hardware button, presumably for shutter release, along the side.

Apple scores a capacitive multi-touch patent: touchscreen monopoly incoming?Way back in 2007 when the original iPhone was launched Apple filed for a rather broad patent regarding capacitive multi-touch displays.  Today that patent was approved.  Patent experts agree its the wide scope may pose problems for major smartphone players such as HTC, Motorola, Samsung and even Nokia. If you’re a manufacturer hoping to release a smartphone with a capacitive multi-touch display there’s a good chance Apple will charge a fee to do so.

sony-ericsson-xperia-neo-review

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo seemed like a pleasant enough mid-range mobile when we first clapped eyes and digits on it at Mobile World Congress back in February. As we dug deeper though, we started to wonder: what was the point of a smaller, fatter phone with all the same specs as the flagship Xperia Arc?

Honestly? We’re still not sure. Let’s take a look, in our full Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo review.

Apple isn’t having a lot of luck with lawsuits recently. It settled the long running Apple/Nokia patent punch up earlier this month and now it looks like it may fail in its bid to stop Amazon using the term “app store” for the Amazon App Store.

While Apple has thrown piles of documents at the courts, a Calfornian judge is decidely unimpressed by its claims…

We’ve seen a smattering of Android laptops in the past (notably the tiddly Toshiba AC100) but the trend for Android tablets and the promise of Chromebooks has knocked them off the agenda. It seems Asus is out to change our minds. The Taiwanese tech giant is reportedly hard at work on a 13in Android laptop and plans to use the quadcore NVIDIA Kal-El processor.

That chip is on course for an August release date which suggests if we do see a new Asus Android laptop it’ll arrive around then too. Since we’re talking about the company that brought us the Asus EeePad Transformer, nothing would surprise us.

We’re at the stage in the iPhone 5 rumour cycle where the smallest of details are being debated. The latest focus for speculation if the iPhone 5 camera and whether it will arrive packing a dual-LED flash.

As is so often the case, the rumour is based on whispering among component makers in the Far East. While the iPhone 4 camera was a leap up from the iPhone 3GS, it’s still ripe for improvement and a dual flash for the iPhone 5 certainly definitely makes sense…

The Asus U36 isn’t quite a slim as the MacBook Air but the price is considerably lighter. The 13.3in machine is 19mm thick and packs an Intel i5 processor, NVIDIA Optimus graphics and USB 3.0 along with an 11.5 hour battery life.

Why are we mentioning this today? Because while the US got the Asus U36 in December, it’s dropped in the UK today. You can grab it in black or silver for £699 from Micro Anvika right now and it’ll be arriving at Comet for the same price later this month.
