If you are planning on buying the 3DS remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time then the good news is that the developers have made sure that the port is extremely faithful to the original (apart from being in full 3D). The bad news? The developers have made sure that the port is extremely faithful to the original – including some of the bugs.
That’s right – they’re not bugs at all. They are features.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is one of those classic titles that are so beloved by their original fans that anyone developing a remake or update must feel the need to handle the project with kid gloves.
Grezzo, the developers of the 3DS port of Ocarina, are taking this attitude to extremes, however. As well as painstakingly recreating the masterpiece in eye-popping stereoscopic 3D, they have decided that today’s gamers need to experience some of the more ‘interesting’ aspects of the original game – the bugs.
“As programmers, we wanted to get rid of bugs,” said Grezzo coder Shun Moriya, “But the staff members who had played the old game said the bugs were fun! So we left them in if they didn’t cause any trouble and were beneficial.”
