Nokia-N9-b

As predicted, Nokia has finally pulled the covers of the Nokia N9 during the Nokia Connection event in Singapore. While the Nokia N9 is the company’s first MeeGo phone it shares more than a little bit of a resemblance with the Windows Phone 7 concepts the Finns have flaunted in photos. Certainly the same range of wild colours is on the cards.

If you’ve been eagerly waiting to see what Nokia would do with Linux-based MeeGo OS, you can find the full specs and a handy video guide after the jump. The big question is: will you go for MeeGo or wait for Nokia’s love-in with Windows Phone 7 to make its debut later this year?

The Nokia N9 will arrive in two flavours – a 16GB or 64GB model – and packs a 3.9in AMOLED screen, 8MP camera and NFC skills. Nokia is seriously talking up the touch interface and the fact that you can unlock the phone by simply double-tapping the screen.

Nokia’s Head of Design, Marko Ahtisaari, says the look of the Nokia N9 reflects the new direction for its phones: “ The details that make the Nokia N9 unique – the industrial design, the all-screen user experience, and the expressive Qt framework for developers – will evolve in future Nokia products.”

Interestingly though, Nokia makes almost no mention of MeeGo in the press information promoting the Nokia N9, which suggests that while Stephen Elop has trumpeted the phone saying it’s “market disrupting”, its OS is destined to take a backseat once Windows Phone 7 is on the scene.

Take a look at the Nokia N9 in the video below and hit the comments to tell us whether you think MeeGo makes the grade. It certainly looks very slick in the clip but we’ll reserve judgement until we can get our hands on the finished article.

Currently you can’t check availability for the UK – http://tinyurl.com/5t99pd7 – maybe we won’t get it?

Nokia’s UK store is closing in a few weeks so you definitely won’t be able to get it on there. Nokia hasn’t confirmed, but I’d be surprised if it wasn’t released in the UK – the N900 was shipped here. Thanks for the tip though!
