Finally some good news for Nokia. After warning that its profits might not look so rosy this year, Nokia has won out in its long-running patent war with Apple.

That means a whole heap of cash for the struggling Finns and an expensive slice of humble pie for the Apple. Read on to see how humbly Stephen Elop is accepting Apple’s surrender. Spoiler: he’s not being that humble at all…

While the details of the agreement between Apple and Nokia are confidential, Nokia revealed in its press release that the folks at Cupertino will make a significant one-time payment and pay ongoing royalties.

Stephen Elop, Nokia’s CEO, cheekily says: “We are very pleased to have Apple join the growing number of Nokia licensees. This settlement demonstrates Nokia’s industry leading patent portfolio and enables us to focus on further licensing opportunities.”

That’s all well and good but we hope he invests some of that cash in making sure that the Nokia Windows Phone 7 line is top notch. It’s more than a little ironic that Microsoft makes more cash from Android than Windows Phone 7 and Nokia is now going to make cash on the back of the iPhone.

The patent war since 2009 between
the two biggies has ended for good I assume. With Nokia having a low share market
value, Elop must be elated with the settlement with Apple. Nokia deserves the
price for its 20 years of innovation and nobody else should take a free ride on
its research and development. I hope the “Finnish” company will now start off
with its journey in the mobile communication industry in a better financial
    backup.
