Nintendo’s new console, the Wii U, won’t actually break cover until sometime between April and December 2012. That makes it pretty hard to tell just how good those new HD graphics we’re promised actually might be.
But that didn’t stop it showing a three minute montage of third party titles including games like Darksiders II, Ninja Gaiden 3 and DiRT. Guess what? All of that footage came from Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. Not that Nintendo was keen to mention that…
There was no mention of the fact that the footage shown wasn’t from actual Wii U games during Nintendo’s presentation but Reggie Fils-Aime had to come clean in a post-conference interview with Spike.
He admitted that the clips were of titles running on other consoles because it’s so far out from launch. That’s understandable but showing the video without noting that seems more than a little dishonest.
Using those clips implied that’s the kind of visuals we can expect to see from the Wii U. It will be capable of 1080p output so that’s pretty likely but come on Nintendo, you’re better than attempting to pass that gameplay off as your own!
