Look, we’re not calling Zavvi liars, but we are saying that the only e-tailer listing a Nintendo Wii U UK price and launch date doesn’t seem likely to be one in the loop.

Still, if you’re after a Nintendo Wii U you can actually pre-order one now for a hefty £399.85, with expected delivery on 20 July next year. Hmm.

At its E3 keynote yesterday, Nintendo made no mention of a price, and only committed to a launch sometime between April and December 2012.

Today, Japanese publication Nikkei Newspaper quotes Nintendo president Satoru Iwata as stating “I don’t think we can charge the same price as we currently do for the Wii.”

The Wii now sells for as little as £99 in the UK, and originally went on sale ate £179.99 back in 2006. From what we’ve seen so far, the Nintendo Wii U and its insane screen sharing controller ought to cost a fair bit more – hopefully not four hundred quid though.
