Despite showing video of a rendered Google Chrome OS tablet concept months ago and rumours of tablet test hardware codenamed Seaboard, Google has damped down speculation about Chrome OS tablets arriving any time soon.

Speaking at Computex, Google’s senior vice president for Chrome, Sundar Pichai, said we’ll have to make do with Android tablets and netbook-style Chromebooks for the time being…

Pichai told an audience at Computex:

Chrome OS is a computer model designed with various form factors in mind but we are entirely focused on the notebook form factor for now. We have no other plans at this time.

Having shown off its own concept for Chrome OS tablets and with evidence that prototype hardware has been in testing at some point this year, that “no other plans” statement should be taken with a fairly large pinch of salt. Google is most likely just trying to avoid scaring Android tablet makers with the spectre of Chrome OS competition.
