The iPhone tracking scandal – if you could call it a scandal – has been well and truly given closure. Apple’s iOS 4.3.3 update, which fixes what Apple says is a bug that saw location data being stored on the phone for your previous six months’ travels, then backed up on iTunes, is rolling out to all your iPhones, iPod touches and iPads. So, that’s that then – but expect location and privacy issues to rear their heads again soon as smartphones become more and more powerful, and services like Facebook Places, Foursquare and Google Latitude gain even more traction.

Intel’s just announced a huge breakthrough in CPU technology – and no, it’s not Will.i.am’s new jingle. That may not sound exciting, but the speed and power saving performance boosts it’ll give mean laptops, PCs, and even tablets and phones, are about to get even faster – and so quickly, that Intel is even pledging to move faster than Moore’s Law with future silicon. Nintendo announced a big pricing shake up for the Wii today ahead of its new console announcement next month, dropping the price of the Wii by a huge chunk to £129, with the superior Mario Kart or Wii Sports Resort included in place of Wii Sports. A sensible move, given that the little motion control rig is about to be outmoded.

What I can’t get my head around however is Nintendo’s choice of titles for its new Nintendo Selects bargain classics line in the UK. What was it thinking?

Amazing news! 6000 thousand people snapped up a BlackBerry PlayBook yesterday…only, they were delegates at BlackBerry World – a motley collection of BlackBerry fans, analysts, journalists and business folk.

RIM would probably tell you that its unseasonably Santa-like move was all about how confident it is in the BlackBerry PlayBook’s future. However, after brutal early reviews and co-CEO Mike Lazaridis throwing a wobbly during BBC interview with mild-mannered tech reporter, Rory Cellan-Jones, it comes over like bribery. Then there’s RIM’s new choice of dance partner – Microsoft. Uh oh…
