Straight from the file marked “Barking Mad Plans” comes this tale of Sony considering a PlayStation Move dock for the PSP. A recently uncovered patent, filed back in November 2009, shows a peripheral for the PSP with a built-in camera to use PlayStation Move controllers with the docked device. We’re not quite sure how workable the PlayStation Move/PSP pairing would be. The PSP has a pretty small screen and the PlayStation Move controllers need a fair bit of distance to operate effectively. That would mean having to squint quite hard to discern what the hell was going on the screen.

The patent shows the now-discontinued PSP Go but Sony’s moved on to the Sony NGP which has motion-control covered with a built-in gyroscope and accelerometer. So while someone at Sony clearly thought long and hard about how to make the PlayStation Move play nice with the PSP, it seems like nothing more than a mad fever dream to us. But if you turned the NGP into a PS3 controller, well, then we’d be interested…
