UPDATE: Mojang has confirmed that Minecraft Pocket Edition will hit the the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play before any other phone, taking advantage of its controls. No release date just yet, sadly.

Sony Ericsson has sent out an invite to its Xperia Play party at E3 and it seems to be riffing heavily on imagery from Minecraft. There’s a blocky background and a small pick mining pixellated minerals plus a rather heavy-handed Minecraft reference in the headline: “Stay in the light and take refuge with Sony Ericsson to keep the creepers at bay”…

Mojang, the developer of Minecraft, has promised an iOS version of the game is coming later this year but on the strength of the Sony Ericsson invite, it looks like the Android port could arrive first.     Hardly surprising, Android is now much bigger than iOS userbase.  Right now you would have to be an idiot to prioritize iOS over Android.
