Prep your pinch of salt but here comes an iPhone 5 rumour that sounds really intriguing. Remember the curved glass screens of iPod nano models gone by? Well it looks like Apple could be bringing that expertise to the iPhone 5 if supply chain whispers are right…
DigiTimes, which has a variable track record when it comes to Apple rumours, claims Apple has snapped up between 200 and 300 specialised glass-cutting machines to produce curved glass displays for the iPhone 5. The move is reportedly to accelerate production with glass makers reluctant to make the investment themselves.
We’ve seen a number of phones with curved glass in recent times – the Dell Venue, the HTC Sensation and even the slightly concave display of the Google Nexus S – but what this rumour doesn’t nail is quite why Apple would introduce one with the iPhone 5.
Hit the comments and let us know: do you think the iPhone 5 will rock a curved glass screen? And should it? More than a new screen design, we’re holding out for an iOS notifications overhaul.
