We’re deep into iPhone rumour season and the latest whisper is that the iPhone 5 (or iPhone 4S if you fancy) could come packing a 4in 720p display. That comes from folk wandering around the Toshiba booth at SID 2011 where the the firm has been showing just such a screen panel. The plot thickens…

Previous rumours suggested Apple had invested in a Toshiba-owned manufacturing plant as a source for retina displays. A 720p-capable display would definitely be an upgrade to the current iPhone 4 screen and Toshiba has been quick to boast about new tech that enables suped up contrast (1.500:1), better colour and wider viewing angles.

A 4in display would be a definite weapon in the iPhone 5′s battle with bigger screened Android phones but many Apple rumormongers are claiming we may not actually see a screen bump until the 6th generation iPhone. Without a repeat of the iPhone 4 leak, we’ll just have to keep guessing.

Hit the comments and let us know: does the iPhone 5 need to include a 4in screen? Or is the current size just fine with you?
