NVIDIA boss, Jen-Hsun Huang, has been speaking out about the current state of Android tablets. He says Android tablet sales have struggled for a number of reasons:

“It’s a point of sales problem. It’s an expertise at retail problem. It’s a marketing problem to consumers. It is a price point proglem. Tablets should have a Wi-Fi configuration and be more affordable. Those that did sold more rapidly than the 3G and fully configured ones.”

Huang also criticised the lack of apps available for Android Honeycomb tablets. However, he had some positive things to say about the future…

Huang believes the problems of the first generation of Android tablets is being solved. He says: The rate at which these Honeycomb Tegra 2 tablets are being improved is really stunning. I think all of the manufacturers have now recognized that and readjusted their plans.”

Huang revealed that NVIDIA is working with Google on Android Ice Cream Sandwich but wouldn’t reveal any specifics. Let’s hope it’s giving Google a heads up on the its quad-core processor design, the brilliantly code-named Ka-El chipset. Huang said he was excited about the Android Honeycomb 3.1 and believes that will get Android tablets on track.
