While Android Ice Cream Sandwich might be the next big update for your smartphone, there’s another little API that’s just been introduced to Android 2.3.4 (currently available on the Google Nexus S): “Open Accessory”. It lets you plug any supported device into an Android phone: on stage, Google demoed how an exercise bike could plug into a phone, letting you see your fitness stats on its screen, and even play an adorable racing game with the famous Google mascot.

Of course, this is just one idea: Google’s not approving what’s made so you can expect everything from portable hard drives and second screens to the inevitable sex toys.
