The iOS 5 rumour mill is running at full speed in the run up to WWDC and the latest unverified tidbit suggests it’ll come packing over-the-air software updates. If you’ve just sat through a slow going iOS 4.3.3 update for your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch , that might sound like a mixed blessing…
9to5Mac claims its reliable sources (aren’t they always?) say that while iOS 5 itself won’t ben an OTA update, the “point” updates (i.e. iOS 5.1 and beyond) that follow will reach your phone through the ether…
Introducing OTA updates with iOS 5 would put iPhone fans on equal footing with Android and webOS users, notified when a new OS update is available and able to grab it there and then. That sounds appealing but we suspect Apple would need to slim down the updates.
Current iOS updates weigh in at over 500MB which is unlikely to be welcomed by the phone networks. Let us know what changes you’d like Apple to make in iOS 5 in the comments. Perhaps something like these souped up iOS notifications?
