Pilots using the iPad in cockpits is not new but back in February, the FAA in the US approved the use of an iPad-based charting system instead of paper charts. Now a firm called GlobalNavSource has come up with an iPad 2 charting app called Electronic Flight Bag which is free now and due for a full on commercial release in June.

The app is likely to be used by a pilots flying smaller planes initially but we could well see an iPad in the cockpit of commercial flights imminently. But are you happy for your pilot to be checking charts on the device he uses to play Angry Birds?

Google punted the Grooveshark Android app out of the Android Market a couple of weeks back but thanks to the ‘open’ nature of the OS, the music streaming app has bounced right back. If you’re an Android owner jonesing for Grooveshark on your phone, you can now grab it directly from the Grooveshark mobile site (m.grooveshark.com).

To use the Grooveshark Android app, you’ll need to be a VIP subscriber which costs $9 a month. If you’re a Spotify fan but feeling a little jaded, it could be worth a look but beware, Grooveshark’s relationship with the music industry is a bit shakey.

Not hyped up enough by iPhone 5 rumours? Fear not! We’ve got iPhone 6 rumours to chew on now. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of Concord Securities claims he’s heard from “supply sources” that the iPhone 5 will hit the production line in September.

He says it will ship with the same A5 processor as the iPad 2, an 8MP camera and a suped-up baseband chip. Otherwise, he says the iPhone 5 will look just like the iPhone 4 – think of it as this generation’s iPhone 3GS. The big news, he claims, is iPhone 6…

It’s been quietly developing in the corner while Google Maps does cartwheels in the spotlight but Nokia’s Ovi Maps has just jumped forward with a new Google Earth-battling option. The Ovi Maps 3D beta is free to grab now and uses Navteq’s maps and a pinch of software smarts to offer up a new 3D view for cities that you can swoop around.

Nokia hasn’t revealed much about how the Ovi Maps 3D option works but it certainly looks like a smart alternative to Google Earth’s Sim-City-gets-real schtick. You can grab Ovi Maps 3D for yourself at the link below…

Apple has kicked out the latest iTunes update – iTunes 10.2.2 – which promises to resolve slow syncing issues with the iPad and iPhone and an irritating bug where videos previews in the iTunes Store skip like a scratched record. The update also promises to improve iTunes overall stability and performance.

All those claims fall squarely in the zone marked “we’ll believe it when we see it” but you can upgrade your iTunes now through the app itself or via the direct download link on Apple’s iTunes download page. Asus Eee Pad Transformer is sold out, US release delayed?The Asus Eee Pad Transformer is flying off UK retail shelves like hot cakes. In a press release issued by Asus this afternoon, the company confirmed “initial demand for the Eee Pad Transformer has been far beyond our expectations.” With the first batch of slates shipped to the UK already sold out, a delay is expected before “a significant quantity” of Transformers becomes available.
