The rumours around an Apple cloud service have been ramping up in recent weeks. Now, Om Malik of GigaOM suggests Apple has snapped up iCloud.com from its previous owner, a Swedish cloud provider called Xcerion. Malik’s source claims Apple was the buyer and snapped up the web address for $4.5m. Reports that Apple is nearly ready to out its cloud service have been appearing frequently over the past few months but the arrival of the Amazon Cloud Drive service and strong rumours that Google is nearly good to go with its own cloud music plans, it could finally come to pass. Would Apple really call its cloud offering iCloud though? We’re not so sure.
