The Commodore 64x is due to go on sale later this year and will ship from the US starting at £360 (though you’re likely to have to add a fair whack for shipping on top of that). The specs crammed into that Commodore 64 shell are pretty good with an Intel Atom 1.8Ghz dual-core CPU, ION2 graphics and 4GB RAM. Storage options will go from 160GB to 1TB. The most tricked out Commodore 64x will get you WiFi, Bluetooth and HDMI.

The Fab 5: Electricpig’s 5 favourite retro gadget revivals

Big Trak

Big Trak was one of the coolest toys of our childhood years has made a comeback in recent years with all the programmable roving robot fun that got us excited when we were knee-high to a grasshopper. It may not be as socially acceptable to play with one in public now we’re grown up but no one can tell us what to do in our own living rooms!

Rolleiflex Mini Digital

It may look like an old-school Rolleiflex but hidden in that classic shell, the Rolleiflex Mini Digital packs a 5MP sensor and 1.1in TFT screen for viewing your images. The reinvention of the Rolleiflex in the digital world might annoy some purists but we like this collision of retro looks and modern tech.

Sega Megadrive

The Sega Megadrive has been reborn in various forms even as Sega has given up its attempts at creating consoles and focused firmly on making games. Our favourite resurrected incarnation is the Megadrive handheld. What more could you want than being able to play Streets Of Rage and Sonic on the bus. That said, if you’ve got an iPhone, Sonic is having quite a successful career there too.

Fiat 500

Though it followed in the tyre tracks of the reimagined VW Beetle, there’s something a little classier about the Fiat 500. The cute refinement of the original car was a huge success when it was outed in 2007 combining its retro looks with some nice modern touches inside.

Polaroid

We have mixed feelings about the rebirth of Polaroid. The Lady Gaga-fronted revival of the official Polaroid brand has yet to bare truly interesting fruit but it’s great to see The Impossible Project putting instant photography back in the limelight and saving dusty old Polaroid cameras from a sad afterlife in attics.
